Care Instructions
Washing
Tencel satin is delicate and can shrink or pill if exposed to hot water or harsh agitation, so treat it gently to preserve the fabric’s natural drape and luster.
• Machine Washing (Recommended for Most Shirts):
1. Turn the shirt inside out to protect the satin surface from friction.
2. Place it in a mesh laundry bag to minimize rubbing against other items.
3. Select the delicate, wool, or hand-wash cycle on your machine.
4. Use cold water (maximum 30°C/86°F) to prevent shrinkage or color fading.
5. Add a small amount (half capful) of mild, liquid detergent formulated for delicates (e.g., non-bio or eco-friendly options like Smol or Persil Non-Bio). Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh chemicals, as they can coat the fibers and dull the satin sheen.
6. Wash separately or with similar colors to avoid lint transfer and pilling.
7. Run a short cycle (about 30-60 minutes) and stop once the cycle ends—don’t let it sit wet in the machine.
• Hand Washing (Ideal for Extra Delicacy):
1. Fill a basin with cold water (under 30°C).
2. Add a teaspoon of mild detergent and stir gently.
3. Submerge the shirt, gently agitate by hand for 2-3 minutes (focus on stains), then let it soak for 10-15 minutes.
4. Rinse thoroughly with cold water until the water runs clear, pressing out excess water without wringing or twisting.
5. Pretreat stains before washing: Dab with cold water and a bit of detergent, then gently rub—avoid hot water or bleach.
• Frequency Tip: Tencel is naturally antimicrobial, so spot-clean or air out between wears to reduce washing needs.
Drying
Heat can damage the satin weave, so prioritize air drying to keep the fabric soft and wrinkle-free.
1. Gently squeeze out excess water (no twisting).
2. Reshape the shirt while damp: Lay it flat on a towel, smooth out wrinkles, and roll the towel loosely to absorb moisture for 10-15 minutes.
3. Hang on a padded hanger in a shaded, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight (UV rays can fade colors and degrade prints). Pull the shoulders square, untwist sleeves, and button the second-from-top button to help it dry in shape.
4. Allow 4-6 hours to air dry fully. If needed, lay flat on a drying rack to prevent stretching.
5. Avoid tumble drying entirely, as it can cause shrinkage and static. If your machine has a low-heat/no-heat option, use it sparingly as a final fluff.
Ironing
Tencel satin resists wrinkles naturally, so ironing is rarely required. If needed, use minimal heat to avoid scorching the delicate fibers.
1. Iron only when the shirt is slightly damp (right after washing) or use a steam function for best results.
2. Turn the shirt inside out to protect the satin sheen.
3. Set your iron to the lowest heat (synthetic or 1-dot setting, around 110°C/230°F).
4. Test on a small, inconspicuous area (like the hem) first.
5. Glide the iron gently in straight lines along the grain—don’t press down hard. Use steam liberally or spritz with water for stubborn creases.
6. For collars and cuffs, use a pressing cloth between the iron and fabric.
7. Hang immediately after ironing to set the shape. Alternatively, hang in a steamy bathroom for 10 minutes to release wrinkles without heat.
General Storage and Longevity Tips
• Storage: Once dry, store in a cool, dry place in breathable cotton bags or loosely folded. Avoid plastic to prevent moisture buildup and static.
• Stain Removal: Act fast—blot (don’t rub) with cold water and mild detergent. For tough spots, use a baking soda paste or white vinegar solution, then rinse.
• Longevity: Wash less often, as Tencel’s moisture-wicking properties keep it fresh longer. If dry cleaning is labeled, use it for heavy soiling.
• Satin-Specific Note: The smooth weave can show snags easily, so handle with care and avoid sharp jewelry during wear.
